Peter Gwaltney is the father of Lindsey Gwaltney PEG ’09, who majored in
studio art at Mary Baldwin College and went on to pursue her Master of Fine Arts at the Memphis College of Art. In 2009, Lindsey was featured in an article in Education Week entitled “Challenging Programs Cater to the Profoundly Gifted,” which said that the family was sold on sending her to Mary Baldwin after a campus visit. Having participated in the painting of the Claudia Bernardi mural outside the Spencer Center, Lindsey credits MBU with helping her find her passion for art in a testimonial featured on the studio art major web page. Peter Gwaltney has five other children, ranging in age from 15 to 28, and two grandchildren with wife of 28 years, Virginia “Ginny” Sills Gwaltney. The couple owns homes in Collierville, TN, and Raleigh, NC, where Peter recently became president and CEO of the North Carolina Bankers Association. They officially relocated to Raleigh in December 2014.

More recently, Peter served as chairman/president/CEO of the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation in Memphis, TN for seven years.
