Professional Development Institutes

Teachers in the community who are in need of options to renew their license can work with the College of Education to satisfy requirements.

Graduate coursework, available fall, spring, and summer, with many options available online, either toward completion of a Master of Education degree, certificate program, add-on endorsement, or on a course-by-course basis as a special (non-degree-seeking) student is one way that a teacher can work on continuing education.

The College of Education also offers an exciting and innovative series of Professional Development Institutes (PDIs) for students as well as local teachers and administrators. Institutes are scheduled for fall and spring in Staunton, Charlottesville, Richmond, and Roanoke. These institutes offer the latest information on a variety of current topics in education and are presented by Mary Baldwin professors and seasoned educators from the field. Attendees are given a certificate of attendance.  Current teachers may present this documentation as part of their licensure renewal process.  Students pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching degree at Mary Baldwin University are required to complete four sessions prior to graduation.

Fee:

$40 ($60 for non-Mary Baldwin students)

  • Checks should be made out to Mary Baldwin University.
  • Please include payment with a copy of the registration form if mailed or hand-delivered.

Refunds:

If you can no longer attend a PDI  you have registered and paid for, you must notify the Field Placement Coordinator, Lori Wall, two weeks in advance to receive a credit or refund. Late cancellations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This does not apply to the First Aid/CPR/AED classes.
