MBC will seek accreditation for its Physical Therapy program through the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, or CAPTE, an accrediting agency that is nationally recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

MBC Taps Experienced Architects

Kahler Slater

Mary Baldwin College has selected Wisconsin-based architectural firm Kahler Slater to design its new Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences — a state-of-the-art facility to be built by 2014.

"We are honored to be chosen for this important project for Mary Baldwin," said Al Krueger, principal-in-charge at the firm. "Kahler Slater has spent the last 17 years building a specific practice in health sciences education planning and design. We also are experts in health care design so we know the latest trends in the health care industry."

Also a respected a leader in sustainable design, Kahler Slater founded the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance and has created four buildings that meet rigorous Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification requirements.

Valley Native to Lead New PT Program

Lisa Shoaf

A clinician, educator, administrator, and researcher with Shenandoah Valley roots and nearly 31 years of experience in the field will lead the new Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program — now in development — for the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences.

A search committee has chosen Lisa Donegan Shoaf for the position of founding director of the DPT program, the first leadership role to be filled in the new graduate school set to open in 2014.

"She is very highly respected by her peers across the nation and will make an immediate and positive impact at MBC," said Steve Mosher, director of MBC’s Health Care Administration program and leader of the search committee. "She knows how to build the DPT program and will be a wonderful colleague."
