Third Annual Online Fundraiser Set for May 10

Mary Baldwin University will hold its third annual Day to Lead the Way on May 10, inviting the entire community to show support for the college and today’s students by contributing to the Baldwin Fund within a 24-hour period.Mary Baldwin_DayToLead2016_logo_180x180

The online event will reach thousands across social media channels and showcase the wide-ranging support across the Mary Baldwin community from faculty and staff and alumni of all ages to neighbors and other friends of the college.

Last year’s Day to Lead the Way was a resounding and heartwarming success. The Baldwin Fund experienced a record-breaking day of philanthropy, with 564 donors contributing throughout the day. Their gifts helped retain faculty and advisors, maintain Mary Baldwin’s historic campus and regional centers, support academic scholarships, and enrich student life.

This year’s goal is to have at least 600 donors participate and raise $100,000 in support of A Day to Lead the Way.

Mary Baldwin’s new crowdfunding site will host the event’s web page, where participants can keep track of the total raised and the number of donors in real time. “This event inspires our community to engage with us, and it teaches current students and soon-to-be graduates about the importance of philanthropy. Each year, it’s getting bigger and better, and we look forward to building on this exciting tradition,” said Sherri Mylott, Mary Baldwin vice president of Institutional Advancement. “We encourage everyone in our community to follow us on social media, share our posts to help spread the word, and to participate by making a gift on or before May 10.”

The day will feature fun and engaging challenges and prizes including Mary Baldwin memorabilia, the Ham & Jam cookbook, jewelry by alumna Susan Nolan Palmer ’67, commemorative Mary Baldwin wine glasses by Tracy “Lolita” Burks Healy ’87, and a complimentary stay at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel, to name a few.
