Compass Shakespeare Ensemble Presents 60-Minute Macbeth

Compass Shakespeare Ensemble (CSE), the MFA company of MBU’s Shakespeare & Performance program, presents a 60-minute version of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The production presents the troubles of ambition, the dangers of wanting something too much, and the lengths people will go to protect their homes, their lives, and their loves. Ideal for 5th grade to college-level students, Macbeth presents thought-provoking themes on heroes and villains, love and loss, and loyalty and betrayal, but with a flair for the adventurous, including witches, swords, shields, battles, magical daggers, and possessions literal and demonic. Macbeth reveals a bloody and violent conflict between countries, homes, and families, all in a dynamic, one-hour cut of Shakespeare’s infamous play.

Macbeth opens at 8 p.m. on October 9 and 10 at the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton. Admission is free.

CSE presents this sixty-minute cut of Shakespeare’s Macbeth under the direction of company member Kelley McKinnon, and the play can be booked for performances at schools or venues with the option of supporting workshops. CSE also performs a Halloween special of Macbeth at 7 p.m. on October 31 at the Sunspots Pavilion. Come for the frights, fun, and Shakespeare.
