This year Mary Baldwin University set an ambitious goal for its annual day of giving known as Day to Lead the Way April 11–12. Donors joined together to support Mary Baldwin’s annual fund and met the goal of $175,000 in honor of MBU’s 175th anniversary. The success of Day to Lead the Way was a sign of even more good things to come.
Thanks to generous alumni and other donors, MBU met its 175th Anniversary Annual Fund goal of $2.1 million for the 2016–17 fiscal year, which ended June 30.
As the annual fund effort was nearing the finish line, a generous donor was so impressed with the participation of fellow alumni and friends of the university — as they rallied together with gifts to both the 175th Anniversary Annual Fund and the Mary Baldwin College for Women — that she contributed $300,000 during the final push. Mary Baldwin students will now benefit from that extra funding, connecting them to exciting opportunities on and off campus.
The annual fund is made up of unrestricted gifts, and the university channels them toward the greatest and most immediate needs. While its use varies from year to year, typically it supports day-to-day operations, academic programs, financial aid and scholarships, faculty development, technology and facility enhancements, educational resources, May Term courses, and other student experiences including study abroad, internships, and conferences.
