A Simple Act for #MBU4Good

In celebration of 175 years Mary Baldwin University President Pamela Fox challenged the MBU community to complete 175 Acts of Good during this academic year. The Spencer Center for Civic and Global Engagement is keeping track of the acts that our community is doing.

Over the holidays a friend posted on Facebook a challenge that she called Homeless for the Holidays. She made up goody bags to keep in her car and hand out to homeless people she passed during her day. I’ve seen this idea before but had never done it. I decided to accept her challenge. I made up five bags of personal hygiene products, food, hats, and gloves and kept them in my car and handed them out to the homeless people I passed during the day. It went over so well I’ve decided to do it again. This is my #MBU4Good project. This time I included more food, no clothing, and only a few personal hygiene products: crackers, cookies, Cup of Noodles, and tuna and chicken salad kits, alongside a toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant. And, of course, I included a fork. Everything fits perfectly inside a gallon Ziploc bag. When I drive by someone in need I can just reach for a bag and hand it to the person.

What is your #MBU4Good project? Let us know on Facebook and at go.marybaldwin.edu/spencer-center/acts-of-good/. You can also read what others have done. As of this week, our community has completed 104 Acts of Good. Help us meet this challenge of 175 acts. I look forward to reading about your Act of Good.
