A message from the President

For the 2016–17 Academic Year

Welcome to a new academic year full of possibility! You are already part of a one-of-a-kind class — the first to enter as students of Mary Baldwin University. You have an exciting and important role in helping us celebrate our 175th anniversary this year and guiding the future path of the university.

As a student within the Mary Baldwin College for Women, you participate in the most momentous part of our legacy while also engaging in the graduate and co-curricular opportunities that are made possible by our status as a distinctive coeducational university.

This year’s university-wide theme, Identity, challenges us all not only to define who we are as individuals, but, even more importantly, to consider how we are shaped by our interactions with others who have different stories and backgrounds.

The person that you become as a Mary Baldwin student will be an empowered, courageous one. You will believe in believe in yourself, trust your abilities, and know how to make the critical connections between ideas and action. I can’t wait to watch each of you make the Mary Baldwin experience your own.

As president of this historic and evolving university, I encourage you to explore, share, and expand your identity during this academic year and beyond while gleaning as much you can from your education. Know that your professors, staff members, and administrators will support you through the tricky moments and be there to applaud your successes.
