Soon, visitors to Mary Baldwin University will have access to a walkable tour of campus and the surrounding area that fits in the palm of their hands.
The Traipse mobile app will soon launch an MBU tour to his repertoire of local jaunts. The tour will include several stops around campus and nearby locales to help guide visitors during their visit to the 175-year-old school.
Darren Smith, Staunton resident and creator of Traipse, hopes his brainchild will stand out among other touring apps because it includes a learn-as-you-go quiz component, offering users the chance to collect clues and piece together puzzles along the way. He launched the app in Staunton — which explores streetscapes, historic landmarks, and locally owned businesses through various themed tours — and hopes to eventually expand around Virginia and beyond.
Smith said he’s excited to partner with MBU on a new Traipse tour.
“Traipse is all about telling the unique story of the communities we serve, and you can’t tell the whole story of Staunton without Mary Baldwin” Smith said. “Through the Traipse app, not only will visitors get to explore a beautiful and historic campus, they will also get to learn more about how the campus community and the City of Staunton have been and continue to be intertwined — all while enjoying fun, challenging puzzles and earning discounts at local businesses.”
There are more than two dozen campus and downtown stops planned on the MBU Traipse tour, which is set to launch just before scores of alumni return to campus next month for the 175th Anniversary All-Alumni Homecoming.
