Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership at Mary Baldwin University is the nation’s only all-female cadet corps. Its mission from the beginning has been to provide an unparalleled opportunity for young women to develop the leadership skills, self-discipline, and strength of character they need to succeed as principled and contributing citizens and leaders in their communities and chosen careers.
VWIL’s leadership development program for women has earned a reputation nationally as a premier leadership development program for women and has become a model of success for other programs with similar aims. In the VWIL program you learn the principles of leadership and you develop your own leadership style. The foundation for our leadership preparation is a liberal arts or science education. The heart of leadership development is the training you receive in the Corps of Cadets, in ROTC, and in the governance of your class. Physical training, sports, and the leadership challenge program round out the VWIL experience.
