The Mary Baldwin University/Virginia Women’s Institute for Leadership (VWIL) marching band is made up of VWIL Cadets as well as traditional (non-cadet) Mary Baldwin students. The Band is led by Band Director and professional musician, Col./Dr. John Brodie. The band and the VWIL Corps of Cadets participate in monthly parades, honor ceremonies, and special celebrations including annual Christmas parades in Staunton and Lexington and the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Washington, DC. It also has marched in five gubernatorial parades and was the sole college marching unit chosen to perform at the 2003 opening of the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, part of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.
