Howie Rifles Drill Team
VWIL’s Drill Team was started during the 2004-2005 academic year. Their first public performance was on March 20, 2004, at VWIL’s Military ball with General John P. Jumber, CSAF, Retired in attendance. In April of 2005 the VWIL Drill Team after a performance during the Staunton Military Academy reunion, was renamed the Howie Rifles Drill Team to continue the legacy of the Staunton Military Academy Howie Rifles Drill Team originally founded in 1945 in honor of Major Thomas D. P.E.A.R.L.S Unarmed Competition Drill Team
VWIL P.E.A.R.L.S drill team was established in the fall of 2012. It is an unarmed exhibition team that also performs standard drill. The nULL class of 2016, started P.E.A.R.L.S. during their nULL year. The purpose of the drill team is to practice current military drill and eventually compete against other ROTC programs at other colleges and universities. Their first-ever presentation to the Corps was on Sunday April 14, 2013 with 18 P.E.A.R.L.S represented. The VWIL P.E.A.R.L.S. is a developing team that plans to compete on the college level and eventually become a nationally ranked drill team.
